Hi, I'm Quillbur F. Redwood

A Famous Dancing Porcupine and Chemist

My full name is Quillbur Fuzz Redwood (The First).

This is my life story, the long version.

I was born in Africa and my family's home got destroyed by a dust devil. We all survived but the dust devil swept me up. My family was heartbroken. The dust devil swept me all the to South America. I landed in the Amazon river. I went to sleep for 2 days. When I woke up, I felt something—I saw sharp teeth in the water. Suddenly, something jumped out of the water and bit my face. It was a piranha! The piranha realized I was not a good snack and we became great friends.

I brought a bowl with me (the first bowl my mother ever gave me). Moment of sadness here while I remember my mother. Now back to the story. I put the piranhas in the bowl and they actually became great friends with the other animals as well. I then put the piranhas back in the river and they played with the other animals from that time onwards (instead of biting them).

I met a little a tiger cub. He was actually 13 years old. He was the dance teacher of the jungle. I decided to enter his class and I became a master! The tiger cub was growing old and he decided to pass the job to me. I became a well-known and famous dance teacher. Everybody loved my moves!

But one day, something dreadful happened: a huge hurricane came in from the East and crushed the jungle. Luckily, there was 100 survivors, including me. I got swept up in the hurricane, desperate for breath, there was a huge shark and the shark disappeared into the depths of the water. Then, I saw a dolphin. I swam and caught the dolphin and hopped onto its back. I gasped for breath. The dolphin was going way too fast, and I fell off.

There was a moment of blackness in my eyes. Then I had an idea and saw a spark below. The spark below was troublesome. But the spark in my mind was a good idea. But I had to hurry. It might just work, I said to myself.

I learned karate in the jungle (in addition to dance), so I decided to try karate in the water. The water was parting away from me, but not enough. I kept jumping up and down like a cannonball firing from the ocean. It was tiring but it was working. The spark below had huge teeth. It was coming up trying to bite me. I was doing one last cannonball move. Either I would land on land or in the mouth of this dangerous creature—an angler fish. I was about to smash headfirst into the water, when I closed my eyes prepared for the worst. But something smashed into me. I opened my eyes and realized the dolphin was back!! The dolphin did one more spinner jump, ejecting me onto land.

I fell asleep for one month. When I woke up I was in a forest. I recognized the forest from somewhere. Hey, this is like one of the stories my mom told me, I said to myself. I realized I was in British Columbia! Wait, is this Grouse Mountain? I thought. That Dolphin must have done a HUGE spinner jump to land me here!!

Well I guess I should enjoy the---AHHHHH! Two humungous bears were running straight towards me. AHHHH! WHHHOA! I passed out. I realized I smashed straight into one of the bears. The bear was running super fast down the mountain. The other bear smashed into us, and I fell off my bear and we rolled down the mountain. I was like a spiky avalanche and he was like a brown fury avalanche. I had to roll fast otherwise the brown fury avalanche would smash right into me.

I hit a huge pile of snow, it was like a jump. I flew passed the parking lot and I fell into—I dont know! The last thing I saw was a wood chip. I realized I landed in Irwin Park, an elementary school in West Vancouver. Some kid adopted and I became his pet.

One late night, while I was sleeping in my little bed, there was a huge storm. The window was open and the wind smashed me everywhere. And I landed on a seat somewhere. I was in the backseat of a car. It was a Tesla. I guess I gotta get used to this life, I thought to myself. I enjoyed listening to the music in the car, and sneaking some snacks by rummaging in the backpack on the passenger seat. But I became bored of this life in the car.

So when the car stopped for gas, I slipped out and smelled the nice fresh air. Then: pppppffffff! I was shot by a tranquilizer dart! And when I woke up, I was on a tree. Before passing out, I saw a sign that said "Science North". And I thought "Oh finally I am back to a nice life... just living the dream!". Sometimes, while living at my new home (Science North) I would enjoy having a swim with my beaver friend Kash, who was secretly a chemist.

One day I was swimming with Kash when he wanted to show me something. He swam down into a pile of sticks. I saw a blue hole. He held my hand and we jumped in. This was his chemistry lab. It was very interesting! He taught me some cool stuff. He told me about all the elements and we played a memory game about the elements. And we actually did some experiments. It was really cool. Then we swam out and Kash decided to have a nap.

While he was sleeping, I snuck back into the chemistry lab and I did some experiments by myself. I was actually very good for my (porcupine) age! All the animals at Science North heard a commotion in the beaver exhibit, and they couldn't find Kash anywhere (he was looking for food after his nap) and so they all saw my amazing works of science. It was very smart thinking.

So they put me on the animal news (it was called the SAT -- the South American Times) and everyone heard about me. I even taught some kids about chemistry.

One day, I was in the gift shop looking at the stuffed animals and I climbed on the shelf. I was pretending to be a stuffy. While I was pretending a kid came along and bought me! I didn't have any tag on me, and the owner of the gift shop said "You'll need to get another one" and the boy said "No. I want this one." and the owner said "Ok we can put a tag on him" and so the kid bought me and named me Quillbur Fuzz Redwood (the First) and I am that very same Quillbur you know today!!

And the kid who bought me was the very same kid who had adopted in Vancouver who attended Irwin Park.

We remain good friend to this day.
